October 6, 1936 – January 3, 2019
Wilfred Hicks (Wilf) formally of Bonavista, NL passed away on Thursday January 3, 2019 at the James Paton Memorial Health Care Centre, Gander at the age of 82 years.
Wilfred began his lifetime career working as a Radio Operator in various locations, from Cape Bonavista, Battle Harbour and Nakina in Ontario on land to the M.V. William Carson and the M.V. Bonavista on Sea before settling in Gander in 1958.
Wilfred was a kind and generous man who loved animals and was a friend to everyone. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at the cabin at Big J’s and Boot Pond.
He was always happy to play a tune on a guitar, mandolin, fiddle or any other instrument you could find laying around. Wilf’s door was always open to anyone who enjoyed having a cup of tea and a good yarn.
He was predeceased by his wife Florence Eileen (Hiscock) Hicks; parents Hugh & Mary Hannah; brother: William (Bill) and sister Mildred Jones (Hicks). Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his sons: Craig Hicks, Brian Hicks both of Gander, NL; grandson Matthew Hicks; and brothers Earl Hicks and Roy (Margaret) Hicks both of Bonavista, NL. Cremation has taken place. Family will be receiving friends at Stacey’s Funeral Home, 60 Roe Avenue, Gander on Saturday January 5, 2019 from 7-9 p.m. and on Sunday January 6, 2018 between the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Monday January 7, 2019 from the Fraser Road United Church at 2 p.m. officiated by Reverend Kathy Brett with interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery.
